The Living Wall
is a sound attenuation/privacy screening solution that incorporates
ecological principals with engineering practices.
The vegetation used in The Living Wall
, willow shrubs natural to Canada and the US,
has the ability to grow rapidly and thus provides an almost instant landscape.
The construction is carefully planned to ensure the controlled growth of roots and shoots.
As the vegetation spreads over its biodegradable wooden framework,
it matures into an integrated unit that is able to withstand harsh winters and hot summers;
maintaining its aesthetic appeal in all seasons. The Living Wall
naturalizes urban and rural environments while providing superior
sound absorption and a substantial privacy structure. It is an organic manufacture that
has enormous environmental benefits including: photosynthesis, pollution filtration, and soil stabilization.
The Living Wall
is 100% recyclable!
It is appropriate for large and small-scale usages such as commercial,
parkland, and highway installations, as well as individual residential lots.
THE TEAM At The Living Wall – An Ecological Sound Barrier Solution Inc.
we provide insight, in-depth knowledge, solutions and project management to support the natural growing of our neighborhoods.
To ensure each project is successful, we work closely with architects, landscape architects, designers, developers and contractors.
As co-partners of the Toronto-based company The Living Wall- An Ecological Sound Barrier Inc.,
Anthony Biglieri, Josef Scholbeck and Karl-Heinz Freitag
have been instrumental in bringing “The Living Wall” concept to North America.
Having met in the schoolyard of their children, they set off on a journey to bring nature back to their community.
ANTHONY BIGLIERI, BAA, MCIP, RPP
As co- partner and founder, Anthony has collaborated with government officials, planners, landscape architects,
architects, engineers and developers in promoting and developing many projects of
The Living Wall in Canada and the United States.
With extensive experience in the field of urban and regional planning, project management and marketing,
Anthony has made promoting the evolution of sustainability and the greening of our neighbourhoods a priority in his life.
In bringing the concept of "The Living Wall" to North America, he has succeeded in the natural beautification of numerous communities.
Growing up in Ontario, Anthony developed love and respect for the natural environment.
It began in his early days, spending weekends with his father in the forest- a man who taught his son the importance
of maintaining our natural surroundings.Anthony strongly believes that we all should have a little bit of that nature
around us to provide ourselves with that sense of peace that comes with being out in the forest.
Surrounded by nature his entire life, Anthony has made it his personal goal to bring back that sense of serenity into
city living- through The Living Wall.
JOSEF SCHOLBECK, BT, ZM, TUM
As co-partner and founder, Josef has extensive experience in engineering, construction and operations that enhances
the competitiveness of the company. With an undergraduate degree in construction engineering and a Master’ s degree in carpentry,
Josef was inspired to formulate this green product. His knowledge of design and passion for the environment has
enabled him to promote and construct "The Living Wall" in Germany and North America.
Josef has been involved with the construction applications of The Living Wall for many years in Canada.
With extensive marketing knowledge and awareness of the need to promote ecological barriers in communities
throughout Germany and Canada, Josef sees their importance for creating sustainable societies today.
Growing up in Germany was great for Josef. Here he witnessed from a young age the successful integration of nature
into urban living. Josef always believed that Canada was about nature and open spaces.
Upon moving to urban Canada with his family and building on his experiences in Germany, Josef foresaw that
The Living Wall would be the product to successfully align nature and the city and bring ecological diversity and
sustainability right into our backyards.
Karl-Heinz Freitag, BFVS
As a co-partner and founder Karl-Heinz owns and manages one of the largest willow plantations in Germany.
He brings years of experience in bioengineering and technology for The Living Wall application. His extensive
experience in the development of ecological sound barriers in Germany is unparalleled.
Karl-Heinz’s expertise is recognized by several German universities where he collaborates on the growing technology
of willow and it’s ecological uses. His knowledge has enabled him to provide services to private and public sector
clients to promote improved quality of life in our urban communities.
Karl-Heinz’ s consistent focus on finding an ecological solution to noise stress has led to the development
of The Living Wall. Growing up on a willow farm as the third generation of willow growers was just a great
experience for Karl-Heinz. He was always surrounded by willows and willow lovers.
Everyone in his family is involved in working with this plant in some way,
so the practice of using willows for fences and sound barriers comes naturally to him.
